Denise Harlow, CCAP, Chief Executive Officer, Community Action Partnership
Community Action Angels has been a great resource in New York. Community Action Angels’ ability to coordinate and generate donations and in-kind contributions has made a real impact. “I believe Community Action Angles has the potential to mobilize local community support for Community Action. Pat is amazing.”
Cortland County Community Action Program (CAPCO) has had a Community Action Angels program for over thirteen years. This program compliments everything we do at our agency. Community Action Angels is based on the Community Action promise that we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other. Community Action Angels is truly people helping people in our community. The program gives all community members an opportunity to give back and is designed to help all those in need. It allows us to provide supports and resources to those needing it without any income eligibility restrictions. This is a circle of giving that embodies the spirit of hope and makes our community a better place to live!
I have been employed by Community Action of Orleans & Genesee for 41 years.
During my 41 years I have been well aware of the ups and downs of funding and programs being defunded, but when I was introduced to Pat Standish and the Community Action Angels network my work at Community Action changed for the better, the network provided necessary tools and training to make me and the agency stronger in our quest to develop a core of volunteers, build partnerships, increase funding and develop programs that help low-income and working poor reach successful outcomes.
This Community Action Angels Advisory Board is the greatest and most valuable resource for our agency.
Andrea J. Ogunwumi, CEO, Economic Opportunity Program, Inc.
The Economic Opportunity Program Inc. of Chemung and Schuyler Counties greatly benefited from the generous donation of more than 800 books presented to the children, parents and community partners of the region. The need to move to the next level of experiential learning and dialogue is evidenced by the challenges faced daily in the lives of our participants and communities served. The books provide a safe platform to begin to discuss and learn new emotional intelligence and social learning approaches. The books were presented by staff in the classroom, afterschool workshops and integrated into curriculum presented during summer and school year programming. The children are learning the principles and concepts, for example, of responsibility, kindness, and respect and applying the concepts in their lives and relationships. The discussion most recently facilitated by Pat Standish with children, staff, community partners and parent representatives from Early Head Start and Head Start Policy Council and the Centers for Excellence Afterschool program was exceptional with requests for future books and group discussions for next steps. The students had the opportunity to suggest thematic topics for the next book and look forward to involvement in this ground-breaking approach to experiential learning and discovery. We are honored to participate and partner on this project.
My family and I are so grateful for your giving and heart-warming ways of help. Who can really know the future? I did not see my family or myself as beneficiaries of all you do. Yet when we needed you, there you were unconditionally. No one chooses to walk a hard road and my family had a particularly hard time over the past year. Thank you for all your support and encouragement that personally helped me find the energy to get through dark times, to invest in a hopeful outlook. I think you folks are keeping the soul of our community intact, by uniting the strengths of people who call New York State home
Julia Hobbs Kivistik, Senior Director, Corporate Partnerships at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
Community Action Angels is one of the most important and impactful initiatives that I have been involved with to help children and families in need. I continue to be amazed at their ability to identify real needs in the communities they serve and find resources for solutions. During my career in branding, marketing and nonprofit leadership I am amazed when I find the passion and compassion of the kind of leadership and commitment I have experienced with Community Action Angels. I am honored to be part of the important difference they are making in the lives of children, families and the communities they serve.
The next Meeting of the Minds is scheduled for September 25th and 26th!
